The Gen 6 product line has expanded to include basic ignition modules, premium modules, coils and distributors for more vintage cars than ever before.
IGNITION MODULES
The sixth generation Perma-Tune ignition module is a refinement of the Gen 5 module in technology in both functionality and appearance. The sand cast aluminum housing of the previous generation is replaced with a smooth, die cast housing that is more consistent with the smooth look of the original housing. Technologically, the circuit board has updated hardware and firmware that makes it forward compatible with plasma spark plugs. Functionally, the diagnostic LEDs have been moved to the connector so that they can be viewed using a mirror without having to dismount the module from the relay panel. The overload protectors have been moved to the back side of the connector where they are more accessible yet hidden from view when the module is installed on the car.
The most significant new feature of the Gen 6 Perma-Tune module is its compatibility with cold plasma spark plugs which are destined to become commercially available. These spark plugs are also known as non-resistive plasma spark plugs, transient discharge spark plugs or non-thermal nano pulse discharge spark plugs. All Gen 6 Premium ignition modules have the capability to function with either conventional spark plugs or plasma spark plugs. On the Gen 5 modules, the plasma function can be turned on with a software setting using the Perma-Tune USB Smart Wire, Bluetooth Smart Wire or by sending your module to the factory for a free software setting change. Until plasma spark plugs become commercially available, we recommend using the stock spark plugs for your particular engine. We do not recommend using platinum spark plugs with the Perma-Tune module. High performance engines show the most horsepower gains using the stock Porsche Turbo multiple ground spark plugs.
The advantages of non-thermal nanosecond discharge plasma ignition have been well documented in many scientific papers including those written by the inventor of the Gen 6 Perma-Tune. Much of the horsepower gains of this technology are due to the ability to retard ignition timing as the result of faster flame front propagation. The ability to retard ignition timing reclaims horsepower that would otherwise be absorbed by pumping losses and reduces the formation of NOx at the same time. Engines equipped with nanopulse discharge ignition can tolerate leaner fuel mixtures and a wider range of fuel formulations.
Most significantly for vintage car enthusiasts, nanopulse discharge ignition will allow your car to remain street legal far into the future while continuing to deliver the thrill of a high performance engine.
IGNITION DISTRIBUTORS
Perma-Tune has created replacement ignition distributors for many high end European cars that look original and have bespoke harnesses that allow for plug and play installation. It is easy to program the RPM limit, mechanical advance timing, and manifold pressure ignition timing using a free app on your phone. You can immobilize your car with your phone. Cube Ignition Module
The Cube ignition module is intended to disguise itself as an old school electrical part so as not to look conspicuous under the hood of a car that was built before electronics existed. It has the same electronics as the Gen 6 Premium Perma-Tune ignition modules with the added ability to be configured for use with virtually any engine. There are Cube modules that are universal to vintage engines and Cube modules that have been configured for specific cars. Cube modules can be added to bespoke ignition distributor kits to easily upgrade to high performance ignition on cars that did not originally have electronic ignition.
Basic Three Pin Ignition Module
This Gen 6 module fits all the 2.7 L engines and has the original housing look. The Basic modules have no surface treatment to the housing and have no LEDs. This module is a period correct looking performance upgrade for the early Porsche four and six cylinder engines that did not originally have electronic ignition. Use the 911503 harness for making your own Dealer looking retrofit electrical harness.
Premium Three Pin Ignition Module
This Gen 6 module is a direct plug and play replacement part for the 911 2.7 L engines and earlier engines that used the three pin ignition module. The premium module housings have a vintage looking surface treatment and the diagnostic LEDs are built into the connector. It is a period correct looking performance ignition upgrade on engines that have performance heads, cams, pistons, ect. This module can be used as a period correct looking performance upgrade for the early Porsche four and six cylinder engines that did not originally have electronic ignition. Use the 911503 harness for making your own original looking retrofit electrical harness or use one of the Perma-Tune distributors that have the three pin harness built in.
The premium module housings have a vintage looking surface treatment and the diagnostic LEDs are built into the connector.
Basic Six Pin Ignition Module
This Gen 6 module is a direct plug and play replacement part for the 911SC 3.0L and Turbo engines and is a period correct looking performance ignition upgrade on engines that have performance heads, cams, pistons, ect. It does not have the surface treated housing or LEDs. This module can be used on any 6 cylinder magnetic pulse type distributors including twin plug distributors. Use the 911sc503 ignition harness connector kit to make your own twin plug harness.
Premium Six Pin Ignition Module
This Gen 6 module is a direct plug and play replacement part for the 911SC 3.0L and Turbo engines and is a period correct looking performance ignition upgrade on engines that have performance heads, cams, pistons, etc.. The premium module housings have a vintage looking surface treatment and the diagnostic LEDs are built into the connector. The power output is adjustable for high compression or high boost engines. This module can be used on any 4, 6 or 8 cylinder magnetic pulse type distributors including twin plug distributors. Use the 911sc503 ignition harness connector kit to make your own twin plug harness.
